What is it?
Two lighthouse keepers try to maintain their sanity while living on a remote and mysterious New England island in the 1890s.
Quick Review
One thing is for sure, I do NOT want to be stranded on an island with Rob Pattinson or Willem Dafoe. The black and white, and square aspect ratio might keep some people away, but I definitely recommend checking this movie out.
Everything from the cinematography to the sound design to the absolutely incredible performances by Pattinson and Dafoe is amazing.
It's a bit of a slow burn, but that burn keeps you questioning yourself as to what's real and what isn't. It's tense and strange and terrifying and unnerving and a truly sensational piece of filmmaking.
Everyone involved was robbed for Oscar nominations, except director photography Jarin Blaschke who should definintely take home the award, in my opinion.
Definitely not a first date movie, but highly recommended.
See it or skip it?
